Alpenglow

The problem is that I always end up where my desires are not. I guess that is how desires work. But often, it takes with itself some of my life and happiness. I have always had to chase my desires for the life and joy I should be finding near me. Chase it up the podiums, through laughing strangers, and into foriegn lands. A few months ago, I saw a glimpse of it on the glowing early morning peak of a mountain. The glow painted the ridges red, a color of where I was not.

And just like how it always happens a longing to catch this glow takes over. So, one night we drive through the morning dew towards the foothills. Seen from below, the glow was still there. But just like how it is, the further I got, the red faded, giving way to granite and wind.

I am confident, one day I will catch it. Tired and unsuspecting, it has to slip up. I will find it and I will hide it away in my pocket. But at nights before I sleep, I dream for it to find me quietly on a raniy night in a city street. For it to come home with me so we can finally rest.
